Course Level 1: Introductory

This course will develop your aural skills by learning how to identify different musical techniques such as meters, beats, and transitions in various musical genres. The course will begin by introducing you to basic musical terminology, instruments, and genres. You will learn about the fundamentals of rhythm and how to identify beats and meters in music. The course will delve into the three primary types of musical texture, the difference between each of them, and how they are used in different genres of music. The student will learn about melodies and different scales that occur in music.

The second half of this course provides the learner with knowledge on harmonies including how to build chords to create a harmony. You will also learn about musical forms such as sonata-allegro, rondo, and ostinato form. Musical pieces by different composers such as Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven will be used throughout the course to allow you to identify with different musical techniques and patterns.
