Financial Methods in Environmental Decisions

Course Level 3: Advanced

Estimated Study Time: 10-12 hours

One of the tasks of an environmental professional is to make sure that the resources they spend on environmental improvements are spent in the best possible way. This course begins by introducing some of the tools that can be used to assess the benefits of investment decisions. Conventional financial appraisal only considers the costs and benefits arising from the decisions that are directly experienced by the organisation itself. So this course concludes by looking at ways of assessing the ‘external costs’ – the wider costs and benefits to society as a whole – of environmental decisions.
