This course will introduce you to the broad range of systems that operate under the rubric of alternative dispute resolution (ADR). This course presents you with the potential uses and benefits of ADR and the conditions under which ADR programs can succeed. The course begins by introducing you to ADR and shows you the different ways in which ADR can help accomplish rule of law objectives, such as supporting court reform and by-passing ineffective or discredited courts. It will present the limitations associated with ADR programs and will then explain to you the background conditions necessary for ADR programs to succeed.
